Ecofriendly beauty – review

I confess: some time ago I started using my first ecofriendly products not so much for an ecologic interest, but because I was looking for something to make my hair long and pretty, and because I always liked the idea of making my own masks &co, plus the fact that you save up money.

Then, gradually, you get informed and find out that covering yourself with petroleum and formaldehyde derived is not that cool, simply because a connection between “beauty” and “petroleum” is hard to find, (starting from a poetic point of view) and because you think about and say: sheesh, that stuff is pollution, why should I wear it? Plus my skin absorbs it and sends it into blood circulation…

Lastly, when you realize you’re prettifying yourself without ugly-fying (yay for made up words!) the planet you go like “Wow! It’s a win-win!!!”… and they all lived happily together for ever after.

Now, I’m far from clearing my drawers from horror INCI (for those who don’t know: it’s the list of ingredients of a cosmetic product, the one with all those incredible names), but I prefer a slow and consistent change, instead of a one-day-revolution (and think about this: what are you going to do with leftovers? They won’t just magically disappear…) to find myself back again, buying whatever.

I started some time ago, using Bottega Verde day moisturizer, from their ecofriendly line. Once I finished it I got back to another Bottega Verde moisturizer, though not ecofriendly (it was the one with biological EVOO)… in a couple of days I had some sort of minuscule seeds under the skin… no scrub could help, so I went back to the first ecofriendly moisturizer from Bottega Verde and in three days, I mean THREE DAYS, those seeds were gone, and it was a month I was fighting for that!!!

Now I’m using some Fitocose products, Stella told me about those because of quality/price (by the way, shipping takes long, but it is because they are going to actually make your orders, they’re not filled up with preservatives!), the cleanser, day moisturizer with a bit of sunscreen, antiage moisturizer with Eglantine Rose (it’s ment as an eye area moisturizer, but I use it on all my face at night) and Jalus the serum, I love this, I’m almost out of it and I’d want liters of it!
I still have Bottega Verde moisturizer, it’s quickly absorbed and it matt-ifys the skin, but it’s not moisturizing enough for my dry skin.
The Fitocose moisturizers are, instead, very rich, even thouhg they leave the skin a bit shiny (and this summer they made my face sweat a little, but then that water is quite quickly re-absorbed… ok, that’s not that cool…) the day one I’m using is, to be honest, for normal skins, but I suspect it is a bit heavy for me… we’ll see in winter…

The thing is, I think I have a dry-combination skin, is it possible?

I don’t use toner anymore, but if I were to I’d have rose water (the edible one, the Roberts one isn’t bad, but it isn’t that “green”).

For hair I’m looking for a good shampoo, the one by Provenzali with linen seeds doesn’t seem bad, the Esselunga (a supermarket) was way too harsh on my hair.
As a conditioner I’m using Splend’Or, coconut scented, it’s not super “green” but it works wonders! I tried Provenzali conditioner too, with shea butter, it works, it smells great, but it doesn’t seem to moisturize my hair that much… and lately I’m having very “electric” hair (but maybe it’s the wind).

As a body moisturizer I’m using sweet almond oil (or any vegetal oil) on wet skin just after a shower (very fast and super soft), or shea butter (last winter I used it pure on my face, it kept it from cold and no, it wasn’t to heavy… oh! On my skin it’s a plus for little breakouts: they calm down in a night time o_O). As for makeup you already know I’m with The All Natural Face, Zoeva and some Minerals Will Work For You (and I’m planning to expand my collection :D). Oh I also have some soap bars & co from Lush (I know, they’re not that ecofriendly, but it’s a start).

Okay, this post is way too long!
I hope to improve my beautycase with time, in the meanwhile scrubs and masks are home made (sugar, honey and oil, and for masks I have a bag of green super ventilated clay)… advices? Wonderful finds? Tell meee!!!

PS
I don’t know if I have to say this, but I will anyway: all the products I wrote about were purchased with my own money 😉

    Bellissimo post!!
In effetti a me lasciava i capelli secchissimi e ingestibili. Poi non so, vedi tu, io ora mi trovo bene con quelli all’henné e aceto di more che non ha siliconi! :)

Argh!
