As I’ve already told you, I got the dress for my brother’s wedding online.
Precisely from Lightinthebox, a chinese website that’s now on the New York Stock Market, don’t worry, it’s chinese but it has been translated so it’s perfectly readable. Before my aunts clicked on it (they simply searched for “cocktail dresses” on google and it was one of the sponsored results) I didn’t even know that it existed. But talking about it with friends and aquaitances I found out that some people already bought from it and it had been a good experience (brides who got all the bridesmaid dresses out of it or people just fancying something).
The first time we tried was with my little cousin E.’s dress (in this exact colour)
It came in in the estimated times, we immediately had it checked by grandma, great-aunt and grandma’s neighbour: three kickass seamstresses (now in retirement :P). They were all positively impressed by the quality of the fabric, the precision and sturdiness of the seams and the attention for the details.
This really eased my mind, so my mom and I made another purchase: clutches and shawls (yes, for this apparently endless wedding, I know you can’t bear hearing of it anymore :P). Sadly we had to pay for custom fees, but this has nothing to do with the website itself.
Anyway, the things were still pretty… I mean: if you were to get them out of Accessorize or H&M or such, they would be just the same!
And, at last, as you know, I’ve ordered my dress. Sa got a tablet and earplugs. We had custom fees again, sadly (and they were pretty expensive… I think that italian customs now have realized what that website is and so they’re exploiting it when they can… but it’s just a behind-theory of mine XD).
Once again the experience has been positive anyway: delivery times were even faster that estimated, we could use a special offering on the registered shipping, we could follow each and every step of it (preparation, ready, shipped) and then again on DHL website (times and places of shipping). Very efficient! (No where near to italian post service -_-).
The packaging has always been gret, the box comes in with absolutely no dents, the things inside are properly wrapped and padded individually, but without wasting plastic or space.
I.E. my cousin’s dress came in a box that was as big as a shoebox. The box with my mom’s and my order was quite bigger but inside the items were placed in a way that used all the space available. Same thing for the last package with my dress (that was turned inside out not to spoil the chiffon, in a monogrammed ziplog bag of its own) and the tablet.
What’s more important is that the stuffing & padding is but recycled paper, so once you’re done with your purchases, you put all the packaging into the paper bin, and voilà, no waste!
What about my green dress, well, what to say… it’s this one (colour “dark green” of course) and I lurve it.
The seams are good and sturdy, the zip runs smoothly. I took a standard measure (number 8), it has a built-in-bra a little too big (but I was planning to wear my own bra underneath, so it’s good), in my case there was no point in paying an extra to have it custom made with my measurements, a standard measure was good enough for me.
About colour choice I used the same method I used with my mom to pick our shawls, I didn’t trust their “colour chart“; what I did was narrowing the search of dresses by type of fabric and shown colour I was interested in, so I could see full frame pictures of the fabric in the colour I wanted.
The pictures are quite reliable.
I have to confess that at first I was really tempted by their “ink blue”, since from the chart it looked like a nice teal/peacock blue, but there are no dresses that show that colour, and even though a couple of reviews sai it is “a nice dark turquoise” I still didn’t trust it and I did a safe choice.
After all the real green is darker than the sample in the chart (look at other “dark green” chiffon dresses and you’ll see what I mean), therefore I think that the “ink blue” would have been way too dark.
However if any of you out there has a ink blue dress from this website, now she has to send me a reliable picture!!!
All in all I have to say I’m very happy with my experience with Lightinthebox, if I’ll ever need something similar again, and considering my usual budget (there are always, always, always good discounts and offerings) I’ll cross my fingers on custom fees and I’ll buy again with no worries
This is not a sponsored review, all the items we bought we payed for on our own
